A few weeks ago, a woman has accused her husband of giving her triple talaq (divorce) and forcing her along with their six children out of his house after a fight.
A woman has sent a letter accusing her husband of domestic violence and throwing her out of his house after giving her talaq (divorce).
The victim, Seema, alleged that her husband Sajid used to quarrel with her whenever she demanded money for monthly expenses of the household.
Narrating her ordeal, she said “I have been married to Sajid for the past 14 years. Fights would occur every time I requested my husband for monthly expenses to feed my six children. I am a housewife, how else am I expected to feed them? He gave me talaq during one such fight in front of my brother and threw me out of his house,” Seema alleged.
The woman was staying with her husband at his home in Pithor locality in a village in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.
The police station at her husband’s place was not heeding my complaints, so she lodged her complaint with an official who has directed the Hapur police station to pursue the case. She wants him to get punished for giving me triple talaq,” she added.
Seema’s brother, Sabir(with whom Seema along with her children is staying), said, “We want the guilty to be punished and want them to make provisions for my sister’s children. After numerous instances of fights and domestic violence, he gave her a divorce in front of me. I earn meager wages and therefore cannot be expected to take care of her and the children.”
Like Seema, there are numerous women across the globe whose life has been turned upside down by merely three words “TALAQ TALAQ TALAQ”, to our astonishment some times over WhatsApp, skype and facebook too.
Ending this inhumanity act, India’s parliament has finally approved a bill outlawing the centuries-old right of a Muslim man to divorce his wife merely by uttering 3 uncomplicated words “TALAQ TALAQ TALAQ”, fetching accusations of government interfering in public issues.
Expressing happiness over the passage of the Triple Talaq Bill in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “An archaic historic practice has finally been confined to the dustbin of history.”
Parliament on 30 July 2019 eradicates Triple Talaq and amends a historical wrong done to Muslim women. This is a triumph of gender justice and will additionally help in maintaining equality in society. India rejoices today!”
Indeed, this is an occasion to salute the remarkable courage of those Muslim women who have agonized great deeds just due to the practice of Triple Talaq. The ending of Triple Talaq will results in women empowerment and give women the self-respect they deserve in our society.”
